Privacy policy
Effective October 27, 2026
Smoke Away is a quit-smoking app for iPhone and Apple Watch made by Byte Work (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the app uses, where it is kept, and the choices you have.
- We don’t collect your data. There are no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
- What you enter stays on your devices and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage. We can’t see it.
- Apple Health data is only read and shown to you. It is never stored by the app, written back, or sent anywhere.
- You can delete everything at any time in Settings › Delete all data.
Information you enter
To track your progress, the app keeps the information you give it:
- your name or nickname;
- your answers to the questions when you first open the app: your age range, why you want to quit, what makes you reach for a cigarette, the hardest time of day, how long you’ve smoked, how soon after waking you have your first cigarette, earlier attempts to quit, how ready you feel and how you want to quit;
- how many cigarettes you smoked per day, the price of a pack and cigarettes per pack;
- your quit date (which can be a day you plan ahead), the time of your last cigarette and previous quit attempts;
- cigarettes you log each day;
- cravings you log, with their trigger, intensity, whether you smoked, and an optional note;
- your savings goal and cut-down plan, if you set them;
- your settings, such as reminder times.
The app uses these answers only to build your plan and to tailor the app to you, for example your reasons during a craving and reminders timed for your hardest part of the day. Your age range is never used for anything else, and none of it is used for advertising.
This information is stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for Smoke Away, Apple syncs it to your other devices through your private iCloud database. That database belongs to your Apple Account; we have no access to it. iCloud is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Apple Health
If you allow it, Smoke Away reads your heart rate, heart rate variability and blood oxygen from Apple Health to show how they change after you quit. The app:
- only reads these values while you look at them and does not save copies;
- never writes any data to Apple Health;
- never shares Health data with us or anyone else, and never uses it for advertising or marketing.
You can change this permission at any time in the Health app or in Settings › Privacy & Security › Health.
Apple Watch, widgets and Live Activities
The Apple Watch app gets a summary of your progress directly from your iPhone, and cigarettes you log on the watch are sent back to your iPhone. Widgets, controls and Live Activities read the same data on your device. None of this goes through our servers; we don’t have any.
Notifications
Reminders, tips, milestone alerts, a countdown to a planned quit day and a reminder the day before a free trial ends are all scheduled on your device. We don’t send push notifications and don’t receive any information about them.
Purchases
Smoke Away Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment details or Apple Account information. The app only checks with Apple whether Pro is active on your account. Apple’s handling of purchases is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Sharing milestones
When you share a milestone card, the image is created on your device and sent only where you choose in the share sheet. If you choose Save Image, the app asks for permission to add it to your photo library. It never reads your photos.
Contacting us
If you email us or message us on social media, we receive your message and contact details and use them only to reply. We don’t add you to any list. You can ask us to delete our correspondence at any time.
What we don’t do
- We don’t run servers for the app and don’t collect usage statistics, crash reports or identifiers. If you opt in to sharing analytics with developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash and usage reports.
- We don’t use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code.
- We don’t sell or share personal information, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites.
Your choices and rights
Because your information stays on your devices and in your iCloud account, you control it directly:
- See and change it: everything you entered is shown in the app and can be edited there.
- Delete it: Settings › Delete all data removes it from this device and from iCloud. Deleting the app removes the data on that device.
- Stop syncing: turn off iCloud for Smoke Away in the Settings app under your name › iCloud.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK or privacy laws in California and other US states), you have rights to access, correct, delete and port your personal information, and to object to its processing. As we hold no personal information about you apart from any messages you send us, you can use these rights in the app as described above, or by emailing us. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Smoke Away is meant for adults who want to stop smoking. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Health information disclaimer
Smoke Away offers general information and motivation. It is not medical advice and doesn’t replace a doctor or a stop-smoking service.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update it on this page and change the date at the top. If a change affects how your information is handled, we’ll also mention it in the app’s release notes.
